Billion-Dollar Club soars

HomeBase Inc., Irvine, reported earnings of $1.4 million on sales of $407.0 million for the fiscal second quarter ended July 29, compared with earnings of $10.1 million on sales of $453.6 million for the previous second quarter. For the six-month period, earnings were $0.3 million on sales of $772.8 million, compared with earnings of $10.8 million on sales of $818.9 million for the year-ago period.

Australia-based Barbeques Galore Ltd., whose U.S. operations are headquartered in Irvine, reported worldwide sales of $46.0 million for the second fiscal quarter ended July 31, up 11% from the previous second quarter. U.S. sales were up 14.7% in the quarter, to $32.0 million. Same-store sales were up 4% in the U.S. For the six-month period, the company reported worldwide sales of $80.6 million, up 13.5% from the prior-year period, and U.S. sales of $51.7 million, up 18.6% year-to-year.

Irvine-based New Century Financial Corp. reported a net loss of $8.6 million on revenue of $35.9 million for the second quarter, compared with earnings of $10.9 million on revenue of $56.0 million for the second quarter of 1999. For the six months ended June 30, the company reported a net loss of $1.3 million on revenue of $96.3 million compared with earnings of $20.7 million on revenue of $110.2 million for the same period in 1999.

Bridge Technology Inc., Garden Grove, reported earnings of $0.6 million on sales of $25.5 million for the second quarter ended June 30, compared with earnings of $0.2 million on sales of $7.2 million in the same period last year. For the six-month period, the company reported earnings of $0.6 million on sales of $47.3 million, compared with earnings of $0.4 million on sales of $16.8 million.

Consumer Portfolio Services Inc., Irvine, reported a net loss of $3.2 million on revenue of $13.6 million for the second quarter, compared with a net loss of $6.9 million on revenue of $13.4 million for the second quarter last year. For the six months ended June 30, the company reported a net loss of $14.3 million on revenue of $13.9 million, compared with a net loss of $9.0 million on revenue of $34.2 million for the same period last year.

Mossimo Inc., Irvine, reported a net loss of $2.9 million on sales of $6.0 million for the second quarter ended June 30, compared with a loss of $5.5 million on sales of $11.4 million for the second quarter of 1999.

Cardiac Science Inc., Irvine, reported a net loss of $2.8 million on revenue of $0.9 million in the second quarter ended June 30, compared with a net loss of $1.9 million on no revenue in the prior second quarter. For the six months ended June 30, Cardiac Science reported a net loss of $5.5 million on revenue of $1.5 million, compared with a net loss of $3.1 million on no revenue in the prior-year period.

Irvine-based Prolong International Corp. reported a net loss of $0.5 million on revenue of $5.2 million for the second quarter ended June 30, compared with a net loss of $1.6 million on revenue of $12.0 million for the second quarter of 1999. For the six-month period, the company reported earnings of $0.1 million on revenue of $13.0 million, compared with a net loss of $1.7 million on revenue of $21.8 million for the same period last year.

SRS Labs Inc., Santa Ana, reported a $4.1 million loss on revenues of $6.6 million for the second quarter ended June 30, compared with break-even results on sales of $8.1 million the same quarter last year. For the six-month period, the company reported an $8.5 million loss on sales of $13.8 million, compared with a $1.5 million loss on sales of $15.8 million the previous year.

Yorba Linda-based netGuru Inc. reported a $0.3 million net loss on sales of $7.3 million for its first quarter ended June 30, compared with a $0.2 million net loss on sales of $3.5 million the same period last year.

GoPublicNow.com, Newport Beach, reported a loss of $0.7 million on no sales for the second quarter ended June 30. It had no operations last year. For the six-month period, the company reported a $1.0 million loss on no sales.

McGlen Internet Group Inc., Tustin, reported a $1.6 million net loss on sales of $8.2 million for its second quarter ended June 30, compared with earnings of $0.04 million on sales of $6.4 million for the same period last year. For the six-month period, the company reported a $2.2 million net loss on sales of $19.0 million, compared with break-even results on sales of $10.0 million for the same period last year.

Sync Research Inc., Irvine, posted a net loss of $4.4 million on revenue of $2.4 million for the second quarter, compared with a net loss of $1.3 million on revenue of $4.4 million in the second quarter of 1999. For the first half, the company reported a net loss of $5.5 million on revenue of $5.6 million, compared with a net loss of $3.0 million on revenue of $9.5 million in the first half of 1999.

Continuus Software Corp., Irvine, reported a net loss of $4.7 million on revenue of $9.0 million in the second quarter ended June 30, compared with a net loss of $0.2 million on revenue of $8.8 million in the second quarter of 1999. For the six-month period, the company posted a net loss of $6.7 million on revenue of $10.0 million, compared with a net loss of $0.4 million on revenue of $9.0 million in the 1999 period.
