Best, Best & Krieger Plans OC Expansion
Riverside law firm Best, Best & Krieger is ramping up its Orange County operations, moving its Orange office to a bigger space in Irvine.
The firm has four full-time lawyers in OC as well as six to 10 part-time.
“We plan to have eight to 10 full-time lawyers in Irvine within the next year,” said John Brown, a Best, Best & Krieger partner and chair of the firm’s public law department. “We’ve had clients in Orange County for many years.”
The most recent addition to the Irvine office is Steve Ruben, a longtime tax partner at the Los Angeles headquarters of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Best, Best & Krieger also has made an offer to a prospective lateral hire from another law firm, Brown said.
The firm initially set up its OC operation in Orange last year. It does counsel work for the cities of Orange, Aliso Viejo and Yorba Linda, as well as several school districts in the county. Public law is the firm’s biggest practice, and Best, Best & Krieger sees a chance to expand in OC.
“Our sense is that many of the traditional players in public law are, for whatever reason, contracting their practices in that area,” Brown said.
The firm also handles land-use cases, including acting as counsel for water resource districts.
The OC office is headed by managing partner Sonia Rubio Carvalho and includes Nadia Davis, who’s played a prominent role in Santa Ana’s push for school space at the former Tustin Marine base.
