Irvine-based BDS Marketing beat out more than 30 advertising and marketing agencies throughout the U.S. to secure the Giant Food Stores agency-of-record contract. The contract is for three years and worth at least $1.2 million.
“We said we could throw new creative at it or we could roll up our sleeves and take a look at the organization top to bottom,” said Kristen des Chatelets, vice president of business development.
It turns out that’s what the Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant Food Stores was seeking; a more comprehensive approach to its “go to market” strategy. BDS, which specializes in marketing services, presented in July and was officially awarded contract in November.
Giant operates more than 100 supermarkets in six states: Pennsylvania, Virgina, West Virginia, Maryland, New York and New Jersey. The company is a subsidiary of the Dutch grocery store operator Royal Ahold. Royal also is the parent of Giant Foods Inc., not the same entity as Giant Food Stores.
