Advanced Medical Optics Inc. said Thursday that it will receive an unspecified royalty payment from rival Bausch & Lomb Inc. over a patent covering fluids used in eye surgery devices.
Santa Ana-based Advanced Medical said it would receive a royalty on fluids used in pumps that are part of phacoemulsification equipment, which is used in cataract surgery.
The eye surgery and contact lens care company said all other terms of the deal are confidential.
The deal didn’t stem from a lawsuit but was designed to avoid one, an Advanced Medical spokesman said.
Last year, Advanced Medical tried to buy Rochester, N.Y.-based Bausch for $4.23 billion, but withdrew that bid in August.
Warburg Pincus LLC, a private equity firm, has since acquired Bausch for $3.67 billion.
