Abercrombie Sues Wet Seal

Foothill Ranch-based teen retailer Wet Seal Inc. has been sued for trademark infringement by New Albany, Ohio-based Abercrombie & Fitch Co., the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Abercrombie charges that Wet Seal used an image of a moose on sweaters and pants, plus a fish shape on other pants, both of which violate the company’s trademarks, according to the AP’s report.

Wet Seal sales at stores open at least a year rose 51.5% in November, versus a year earlier. Total sales for the November rose 22.3% to $41.3 million.

The young women’s retailer has closed more than 100 unprofitable stores and revamped its management during the past year. It now operates 309 Wet Seal stores and 93 Arden B. stores.
