Cal State Fullerton has received a $325,000 grant from Bank of America to help grow its Women in Computer Science and Engineering (WiCSE) Program, the school announced Dec. 13.

The grant, dubbed the Workplace Development Grant, aims to expand the program from two to four years, triple the number of students enrolled, and help meet the growing demand for skilled talent in high-wage careers in Orange County’s growing engineering and computer science sectors, officials said.

“This gift from Bank of America helps ensure that we can continue to support and build WiCSE,” said Susan Barua, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. “By increasing the breadth and scope of the program, we increase the number of women we can serve.”

According to CSUF officials, women currently make up 58.5% of the school’s total students, yet represent 19% of engineering computer science (ECS) students.

Barua added: “Community support is critical in helping our students achieve their potential. Encouraging more women to consider engineering and computer science careers benefits us all.”
