Karma CEO: Pateo Deal Signals Readiness for Mass Production in China

Karma Automotive said it struck a deal with Shanghai technology firm Pateo to boost connectivity in the Revero GT in a move the automaker’s CEO said prepares it to mass produce in China.

The announcement follows the Irvine-based company’s recent raise of $100 million in funding, which was first reported by Bloomberg. The media outlet also said the automaker aimed to raise another $300 million, dismissing an earlier report from Jalopnik that Karma was on the verge of bankruptcy.

Pateo’s technology, called Qing Mobile, would be integrated in “whole or in parts,” Karma said, in its Revero. The technology provides the backbone to integrate and connect communication, media and other functions within a vehicle.

“We have been investing in product innovation and working to leverage new technology applications for Karma vehicles that improves connectivity,” Karma CEO Lance Zhou said in a statement. “Pateo Qing Mobile is our new solution and we are excited to be working with the Pateo team to bring this new advanced technology to market. Furthermore, this partnership enhances Karma’s readiness to mass produce in China.”

The two companies, with the announcement of their strategic partnership, also said they were exploring ways of producing digital cockpit technology solutions to the broader market.
