Bob Alter, who turned a small Colorado condominium and hotel company into one of the nation’s largest real estate investment trusts, was among six entrepreneurs honored at Wednesday’s Excellence in Entrepreneurship Awards luncheon in Irvine put on by the Business Journal.
Alter runs San Clemente-based Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc., owner of 61 hotels nationwide with a recent market value of $1.6 billion.
The other winners:
Mike Dobson and Rick Teasta, founders of Santa Ana-based oil change business EZ Lube Inc., which counts nearly $100 million in yearly sales.
Joe Kiani, chief executive and founder of Irvine medical device maker Masimo Corp., which earlier this year won $330 million in a legal fight with Tyco International Ltd.
Patrick Fuscoe of Irvine-based Fuscoe Engineering, which is working on the redevelopment of the former El Toro base into a park and restoration of Laguna Beach’s Bluebird Canyon.
Marsha Besley, founder of Cerritos-based Marina Medical Billing, which helps emergency room doctors get paid for their services.
