Sullivan Named Editor of OC Business Journal

Jerry Sullivan has been named editor of the Orange County Business Journal.

Sullivan, the Business Journal’s managing editor since October, will oversee production of the weekly newspaper and its daily news website.

Sullivan served as a reporter, marketing and media columnist and managing editor of the Business Journal in the 1990s.

He also served as editor of World Trade magazine in Irvine, California Apparel News in Los Angeles, and started and ran the Los Angeles Garment & Citizen, a community newspaper that covered the Downtown Los Angeles area for 10 years before ceasing publication last year.

“Jerry continues our strong tradition of extraordinary editors at the Business Journal, following the tenures of Rick Reiff and Mike Lyster,” said Business Journal Publisher Rich-ard Reisman.

Lyster is leaving the paper to become vice president of corporate communications at Irvine Company.

In the past 10 years, Lyster has helped make the Business Journal a must-read publication for executives, professionals, business owners and others.

“Mike Lyster has established a uniquely strong foundation of talent and an understanding of the varied and valuable mix of industries and companies here,” Sullivan said. “I’m excited about leading our staff of skilled journalists and ensuring that our focus on Orange County’s business community continues to match the dynamic nature of the marketplace.”

Lyster joined the Business Journal as editor in 2000 after serving as a reporter at the paper in the 1990s.

“I’ll always look back fondly on my time at the Business Journal,” Lyster said. “And I’ll still be an avid reader in my new role at Irvine Co.”

Sullivan is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, where he earned a bachelor’s in journalism with a minor in philosophy. He also earned a certificate in financial accounting from University of California, Irvine.

He is the recipient of numerous professional awards.

Sullivan is married to Lorna Corpus Sullivan, the Business Journal’s director of special events and supplements editor. The couple lives in Irvine.
