If the GOP retakes the House in Tuesday’s elections, Fullerton’s low-profile congressman has a shot at being the Republican choice to replace high-profile Massachusetts Democrat Frank as chairman of the powerful Financial Services Committee. (Royce is considered a shoo-in to win a 10th term Tuesday.) Politico suggests that House GOP Leader John Boehner would back the ranking committee member, Alabama’s Spencer Bachus, for chairman. But next in line is Royce, a former controller and corporate tax manager who is a party leader on finance reform issues. Says one congressional watcher, “If this were the sports pages, I’d score it 3-2 Bachus” …
