Register Names New Senior Editor

Todd Harmonson has been named senior editor at the Orange County Register, succeeding managing editor Donna Wares, according to the Southern California News Group, which oversees the Register.

Wares departs the Register today to serve as editorial director for a yet-to-be-launched, online, travel startup.

Denver, Colo.-based Digital First Media formed the Southern California News Group last month after acquiring the assets of the former Register owner, Freedom Communications Inc., in a bankruptcy auction.

Harmonson counts 30 years of journalism experience as an editor, reporter, columnist and designer. He most recently served as the Register’s assistant managing editor of sports.

Harmonson will be responsible for the Register’s news operations across all its various platforms, such as its websites and daily newspapers, as well as its monthly magazines.

Harmonson also joins the senior management team within the news group, which now operates 11 daily newspapers and associated websites in Southern California.
