DiOrio Joins Business Journal as Managing Editor

Carl DiOrio has joined the Orange County Business Journal as managing editor to oversee special reports and help produce the weekly newspaper and daily website.

The job marks a return of sorts for DiOrio, who served as editor of the Fresno Business Journal in the mid-1990s and earlier was an associate editor of the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Award-Winning

He was the recipient of two Keystone Journalism Awards—for a special report and a commentary—from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association while with the Phil-adelphia Business Jour-nal.

DiOrio shifted to Hollywood in 1995, taking on duties as business editor and technology writer for The Hollywood Reporter. He went on to oversee tvindustry.com and served as business editor and box-office analyst for Variety and editor of Video Business and DVD Exclusive.

He returned to The Hollywood Reporter as deputy film editor, his most recent as-signment before coming to the Business Journal.

Education

DiOrio has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Pennsylvania State University and studied mass communications at the graduate level at Fresno State University.

He fills a job left vacant in July, when Jerry Sullivan was promoted from managing editor to editor of the Business Journal.

“I am pleased that our thorough search to fill the managing’s editor post ended with a candidate of Carl DiOrio’s skill and experience,” Sullivan said. “The Business Journal is engaged in a constant effort to bolster our standing as the newspaper of record for the business community of Orange County, and adding Carl to our talented staff is proof of our commitment to being the leader of the market, with unique content that makes us the best local business publication in the nation.”

DiOrio said joining the Business Journal feels like a homecoming.

“Grateful”

“I’ve seen that business journals can play a key and vital role in any business community, and the Orange County Business Journal stands out for its commitment to excellence,” DiOrio said. “I’m grateful for the chance to help make good on that commitment.”
