Corporate counsels and students at the School of Law at University of California, Irvine, will be working together to teach practical legal information to juniors and seniors at Middle College High School in Santa Ana during the first week of October.
The effort is part of the Street Law curriculum initiated by UC Irvine School of Law’s Child Advocacy Group and the Association of Corporate Counsel America’s Southern California chapter.
Lawyers from First American Financial Corp., Verizon Communications Inc., Cisco, Sempra Energy and the U.S. Postal Service, among others, joined UCI law students Sept. 1 to kick off the program.
After introductions and a talk from Claudia Flint, principal of the Santa Ana high school, participants split into different groups to discuss upcoming lessons. Each group will be teaching one of seven sessions.
The Street Law program gives students exposure to the legal process, fundamental principles of democracy and human rights, according to its website.
