JE Pistons Inc. announced plans to move its manufacturing center from Huntington Beach to Mentor, Ohio, in a shift that is expected to cost 116 jobs here, according to a notice recently filed with the state of California.
The move includes relocation of its 75 machines, and will happen through November, the company said. Operations in Huntington Beach will continue until the new facility is equipped.
JE Pistons said it will set up a new technical center in Southern California to oversee sales and customer service. It makes forged pistons and components that are used in automotive engines. Its pistons are sold to engine makers such as Ford Motor Co. and Porsche. They also are used in other sports gear, including snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles.
“The decision to relocate is part of an effort to be closer to the majority of our customers, improve delivery, and expand our capabilities,” company officials said. “We estimate that over 70% of our U.S. customers will experience reduced delivery time along with a 25% reduction in shipping cost.”
