Newport Beach-based specialty chemical maker American Vanguard Corp. is cleared to bring a fungicide product line back to the market.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved American Vanguard’s subsidiary, Amvac Chemical Corp., to once again sell its pentacholoronitrobenzene (PCNB) product line. It’s used on golf course turf, potato and cotton crops, ornamental bulbs and other plants, according to the company.
The fungicide had been under a “Stop Sale, Use of Removal Order” from the EPA for about a year.
The agency contended that Amvac did not identify trace impurities in lists of ingredients for PCNB.
The restriction was lifted in August, when the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia voided the order, finding that the EPA official who signed it lacked authority to do so.
The court sent the matter back to the EPA for reconsideration, which led to the final approval.
