Costa Mesa-based Ceradyne Inc. has appointed Robert Miller as vice president of acquisitions and corporate development.
Ceradyne makes ceramic-based body armor and other products for the defense, industrial and commercial markets.
The company saw about $572 million in revenue last year, a 40% increase from a year earlier. It nearly tripled profits to $83.9 million over the same period.
Miller joined Ceradyne in 2009 when the company acquired the Salem, N.H.-based military helmet maker Diaphorm Technologies LLC.
Ceradyne bought Diaphorm’s combat and non-combat helmet assets in the $9.5 million deal, a move to expand Ceradyne’s body armor business.
Miller had been serving as general manager of the Ceradyne Diaphorm that was formed out of the acquisition.
Miller is expected to focus on new strategic partnerships, technology ventures and acquisitions for Ceradyne.
“Strategic acquisitions are an integral part of the ‘Ceradyne $1 Billion’ strategy,” Chief Executive Joel Moskowitz said.
The company is amid a five-year plan to reach $1 billion in revenue by 2016.
