Ceradyne Gets $6.3 Million Order

Costa Mesa-based Ceradyne Inc. received a $6.3 million order for armor products to be used in the Apache helicopter.

Ceradyne makes ceramic armor and other components for defense, industrial and commercial uses.

Shipments for the helicopter will begin in the third quarter and be completed early 2013, according to a Ceradyne statement.

The company recently posted fourth quarter profit of $20.8 million, up 57% from a year-earlier quarter. The company had $83.9 million in net income for the full year, nearly three times its total for 2010.

Revenue for the fourth quarter totaled $128.5 million, up 28%. Full-year revenue was $572 million, a 42% increase from the year earlier.

Revenue was in line with Ceradyne’s expectation of between $570 million and $600 million in sales for 2011. The company is about halfway through its “Ceradyne $1 billion” goal to grow revenue.
