UCI Gets $4 Million for Genetics Program

The University of California, Irvine’s Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics was awarded $4.3 million from the National Institutes of Health.

The university plans to use the multiyear grant to fuse various bioinformatics programs into a single student training program.

Bioinformatics mixes computer and medical technology to study DNA and protein sequences.

The grant is the largest training grant of its kind awarded to UCI, officials said.
