Senior.com, an Irvine-based Internet content provider, has entered a partnership with John Hancock Life Insurance Co. to offer long-term care insurance policies.
SimpleCare, the insurance product, will be available on Senior.com’s Web site. It will help pay for the cost of healthcare provided in a nursing home, residential care facility or assisted care living facility, adult day care center or in the home. John Hancock is the underwriter, and Secure Horizons, a subsidiary of Santa Ana-based PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., is the contracting agency. Annual premiums for a 65-year-old range from $680 to $1,947, depending on what levels of coverage are chosen.
Healthcare observers say long-term care will become a more prominent issue as the United States’ population ages. Long-term care is expensive,a recent General Accounting Office report shows the cost averages around $41,000 a year, and many still do not carry policies to offset the costs.
Senior.com was launched in 1995. Its principal investors include PacifiCare, Secure Horizons and Compaq Computers Corp.
