Santa Ana-based RedSonic Inc., a maker of Linux software for use with embedded computing devices, said it has expanded into Asia with a Singapore office and subsidiary.
The office is set to provide engineering services, training courses and workshops starting in the fourth quarter, the company said.
RedSonic hopes to target customers in neighboring Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and India from its new office.
“One of our company’s goals has always been to build a strong presence in Asia,” said Kwei-Jay Lin, RedSonic’s chief executive and a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of California, Irvine.
Redsonic offers a Linux kernel,or the key part of an operating system, along with system performance tools and a software development kit.
The company’s software is designed to work with embedded devices, chips that drive set-top boxes and other devices but are largely invisible to users.
Last year, RedSonic raised $4 million in its first round of funding from unnamed technology companies, financial institutions and venture capitalists in the U.S., Singapore, and Taiwan. The company was founded in March 2000.
In June, RedSonic struck an alliance with Japan’s MegaSolution Inc. to distribute its products in the country.
