APPAREL

Anaheim-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. hired Thomas Kennedy as division president. He will be responsible for all merchandising, design and marketing. Kennedy most recently worked for Nike Inc. as vice president of global lifestyle apparel.

ARCHITECTURE

San Diego-based Car-rier Johnson added Charlene Reed as senior designer and project manager to its Irvine office. Reed’s responsibilities will include overall management of interior design projects. David Gonzalez joined Carrier as a senior designer. Gonzalez will lead teams through the conceptual design, master planning and final construction phases of projects.

Ware Malcomb, an architectural and interior design company based in Irvine, promoted Kristy Diez to controller in its corporate accounting department. Diez joined Ware Malcomb as an acc-ounting manager in 2000.

Kimberly Blankenzee joined the Tustin office of Atlanta-based Greenberg Farrow Architecture Inc. Blankenzee will be part of the site development team as a due diligence coordinator.

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Anita Mangels was named president of the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach. Mangels, a public affairs consultant, was vice president of the nonprofit and took on the new position when Bob Henry resigned.

Beth Burns, founder and artistic director of Santa Ana’s Saint Joseph Ballet, will become volunteer artistic advisor in June 2005. Melanie Rios Glaser will be the new artistic director. Also, Steffani Francis was named executive director. Francis previously was managing director.

CONSTRUCTION

Southland Industries Inc., an Irvine-based engineering and construction company, named Jon Spallino executive vice president and chief financial officer. Spallino also will assume primary executive oversight responsibilities for the company’s financial, banking, bonding, outside auditors, information technology and legal functions. Chuck Fox, a senior vice president with Southland, was named chief legal executive.

Jerry L. Eubanks joined Pepper Construction in Irvine as senior project manager. Eubanks has more than 15 years of experience in construction and project development. The company also hired Greg Horvath as project engineer.

LAW

Seattle-based Preston Gates & Ellis LLP hired Jean Kuei as an associate at its Irvine office. Kuei’s practice includes employment discrimination, wrongful termination, workplace harassment and unfair competition and trade secret issues.

Irvine-based Kring & Chung LLP added Laura C. Hess as a new associate attorney. Hess’ practice areas include business and corporate law, general civil litigation, insurance defense, personal injury and construction defect.

MEDIA

Leticia Garcia-Irigoyen became the managing editor at Irvine-based Freedom Communications Inc.’s Excelsior del Condado de Orange. Garcia-Irigoyen joined the paper in March 2003. She previously worked as a reporter at Noticias del Mundo and as a photographer and reporter at La Opinion, both in Los Angeles.

REAL ESTATE

Arlington, Texas-based D.R. Horton Inc.’s Orange County/Inland Empire division named Carlos Garcia as project manager. Garcia primarily will be responsible for planning, engineering and entitlements of the homebuilder’s communities in Riverside County. The company’s local division also named Deanna Montoya escrow manager and Denice Solorio escrow coordinator.

Residential mortgage company ResMAE Financial Corp. of Brea hired Arthur Hickson as senior vice president, division manager. Hickson has more than 17 years of experience in wholesale and retail mortgage banking.

The Irvine office of Dallas-based Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP appointed Jay Ash as an associate director in its debt placement group. Ash will be responsible for arranging debt and equity deals in the western region. Ash previously was senior account executive at Bethesda, Md.-based CoStar Group Inc.

SPORTS

Newell Brown was named director of coaches and player development for the Anaheim Junior Ducks. Brown was a former associate coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets and former assistant coach for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Brown will hold coaches’ clinics and work with local players and teams at their practices.

TECHNOLOGY

DPAC Technologies Corp. of Garden Grove appointed Michael P. Zachan as vice president, airborne products. Zachan brings 30 years of electronics and communications management experience and has been involved with DPAC as a consultant in the past.
