Barbara Thompson was promoted to senior vice president, media director for Foote, Cone & Belding Southern California, Costa Mesa. She was previously media director for FCB’s Los Angeles office. Marsha H. Gleit joined First American Title Insurance Co., Santa Ana, as assistant vice president of subdivision projects. She previously worked for CTC Foreclosure Services Inc. as vice president-operations manager in Simi Valley.
Construction
Tim Somerset was promoted to vice president of Pankow Special Projects Inc., Newport Beach. He will oversee construction operations for the group in LA, San Diego and Orange counties and the Inland Empire. He was previously vice president of operations for a general contractor in Honolulu.
Irvine-based GKK Works hired Cheryl Humann as project director. An 18-year industry veteran, she was most recently a regional principal with Jacobs Engineering (formerly Sverdrup) where she specialized in the education market.
R.D. Olson Construction hired Jim McInerney as project manager. He will initially oversee construction of a six-story Springhill Suites in Hawthorne. McInerney will be responsible for budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor hiring and daily operations at the projects he oversees.
EDUCATION
UCI named Meredith Lee dean of undergraduate education. She was named the campus’s first female academic dean in 1983 and was previously associate dean of humanities, chair of the Department of German, and most recently interim dean of undergraduate education.
ENVIRONMENT
OC Superintendent of Education John Dean was elected president of the Orange County Coast Association, a group of local leaders that focuses on issues of concern to coastal cities and residents. He follows Orange County Supervisor Jim Silva to the position.

Jackie Carey was appointed chairperson of the new Major Gifts Committee for Saddleback Memorial Foundation. Her recent fundraising efforts helped build Meiklejohn Critical Care Pavilion at Saddleback Memorial.
Jay Weinstein was named CEO of the Brea Community Hospital and replaces Gaetano Zanfini. Weinstein, a 30-year veteran of the healthcare industry, was previously CEO of North Suburban Medical Center in Denver and Miami Beach Community Hospital.
ARV Assisted Living Inc., Costa Mesa, named Jeffrey D. Koblentz director of the company. Koblentz, vice president of Lazard Freres Real Estate Investors LLC, assumes the vacant fifth seat on ARV’s board of directors and is the second representative from LFREI to sit on the board.

Marsh, the Newport Beach unit of Marsh & McLennan Companies, appointed James Calder vice president and head of the firm’s international department in Orange County and the Inland Empire. Calder, a 30-year veteran of global insurance markets, will be based in Newport Beach.

Orange County’s chief probation officer, John B. Robinson, was appointed to the state Board of Corrections by Gov. Gray Davis. Robinson has worked for the Probation Department for 27 years in a variety of positions.
