Hanford Hotels Names President/COO
Michael B. McGlone was elected president and COO of Hanford Hotels, a Newport Beach hotel management company. He succeeds Donald E. Sodaro, who remains chairman and CEO. McGlone, 41, joined Hanford in 1996 as vice president of finance and administration and CFO and was previously a senior tax manager with the Orange County office of Deloitte & Touche. He will retain the CFO position and will report directly to Sodaro.
McGlone will be responsible for the overall operations of all California properties, which include the recently acquired Holiday Inn Costa Mesa and the Hilton Concord, as well as several other hotels. He said the company will “probably” post about $17 million or $18 million in 1999 gross revenue and is in an acquisition mode that may include more properties in Orange County. He hopes to achieve “slow, steady growth and a good return for shareholders.”
The California native, who moved to OC in 1983, is a graduate of USC, where he received a B.S. in accounting, and Golden Gate University, where he received a Master’s degree in taxation. He lives in Orange with his wife and three children, ages 5, 11 and 14. His spare time is devoted to the children’s soccer teams and a variety of other sports, including basketball, golf and tennis.

Nicole Khastoo was appointed sales manager for the Hilton Anaheim. She was previously an associate sales manager for the Newport Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau.

Earl D. Butler joined John Burnham & Co. Insurance Services as senior vice president and will manage the firm’s Irvine operations. He was previously senior vice president for both Armstrong Robitaille and Anderson & Anderson and was COO for Cal Surance.

Farrah Voll joined Morgan Marketing & Public Relations, Irvine, as account coordinator. She was previously an intern at the Costa Mesa branch of PRA Destination Management.
Bruce Walter Barton was appointed vice president of corporate communications for DataMan Direct, a Santa Ana-based national direct marketing company. He was previously a marketing and public relations consultant and creative director for Northrup Grumman Corporation.
The Southern California Chapter of the Business Marketing Association appointed James W. Obermayer, president of Sales Leakage Consulting, Villa Park, to the board of directors. He will oversee the organization’s speaker program and advise the board on marketing strategies and objectives.
Elliot Light was elected to the board of the Marketing Resource Network, a national confederation of marketing and communications firms. He is president and founder of Newport Beach-based L & A; Marketing and Advertising Inc.
Tracy Strauss was promoted to account executive for the Costa Mesa office of MC Direct. She will service financial accounts on the West Coast. Strauss joined the company in 1996 as a project coordinator.
The Peterson Group, Newport Beach, named Heidi Hauff account coordinator. Hauff will work on marketing plans for Waste Management and ROI Systems Inc.
Lages & Associates, Irvine, appointed Michael Kula and Kim Alexander account executives. Kula most recently worked as an account executive for Paine & Associates, and Alexander worked as an independent consultant on numerous media projects

Steve Vargem joined Irwin Mortgage as a loan officer for the company’s Irvine branch. Irwin Mortgage is a housing lender with more than 100 offices in 30 states.

David M. Fields was elected to the board of directors for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. Fields is vice president and general counsel for Irvine Retail Properties Company, a division of The Irvine Co.
REAL ESTATE
San Francisco-based BRE Properties Inc. named John Townsend vice president of construction for the firm’s Southern California region. He will oversee the construction of developments in progress in Santa Ana, Carmel Creek and Costa Mesa. Townsend was previously president of Regis Contractors LP, an affiliate of the Sares-Regis Group, Irvine.
Ronald Lyen Jr. joined Keystone Pacific Property Management Inc. as a network support specialist. Based in the Irvine office, he will also provide network support to the company’s regional offices in San Diego and Valencia. Lyen was most recently a computer specialist for Personal Optics in Fullerton. In addition, Keystone Pacific named Judith A. Barbe director of administration and human resources for the firm’s Irvine headquarters and San Diego and Valencia offices. She was previously associate human resources consultant for Toshiba America Information Systems.
Laguna Hills-based Taylor Woodrow Homes Inc. promoted Denise Carroll to marketing coordinator. She joined the company in 1996 and was previously a sales and marketing assistant.
Bill Nelson, executive vice president of Express Escrow Co., Huntington Beach, was elected to the board of directors for The Escrow Agents’ Fidelity Corp. The EAFC is a state-mandated corporation which indemnifies the public from embezzlement and disappearance of trust funds held by licensed escrow agents.
David Allison was promoted to portfolio manager for Voit Development Co., Newport Beach. Allison previously was a project manager for the firm. In addition, Mark C. Barker was named a consultant and will handle projects for company founder Robert D. Voit. He has worked on more than 5 million square feet of commercial properties for South Coast Plaza, Birtcher and Utman Macdonald & Partners.

The Association for Financial Professionals elected Lino Martin, vice president and North American treasurer for Ingram Micro Inc., Santa Ana, to the board of directors. He is responsible for the U.S. and Canadian treasury functions at Ingram Micro Inc. and Ingram Financial Services Company.
TDK Semiconductor Corp., Tustin, promoted Brian Truesdale from director to vice president of worldwide sales. Truesdale worked in design engineering for Hughes Electronics from 1981 to 1989, after which he joined TDK as a senior product marketing engineer.
Milton Ellis joined Oregon-based Laughlin-Wilt Group, an electronics contract manufacturer, as Orange County regional sales manager. He will be based in the company’s Lake Forest facility. Ellis was most recently vice president of finance for BLT Electronics in Aliso Viejo.
ZLand.com, Aliso Viejo, a provider of web-based business solutions for small and mid-sized companies worldwide, appointed Jack Harding to the board of directors. He was previously president and CEO of Cadence Design Systems, a supplier of electronic design automation products and services.
