OC Continues Worker Gain

Orange County added workers for a fifth month in a row, according to a report from the state Employment Development Department on Friday.

In the past month, the county recorded 3,400 new jobs for a total nonfarm payroll of 1,486,700. OC has added 18,400 jobs in the past year.

The employment department said OC’s unemployment rate was 3.9% in June, down from 4.6% a year earlier. Unemployment was a revised 3.4% in May.

California’s unemployment rate was 5.4% in June, with the U.S. posting a 5.2% rate.

In the past year, professional and business services companies posted the largest gain in jobs at 11,600. Administrative and support services accounted for 74% of the growth.

Construction companies added 3,700 workers in the past year, with telecommunications accounting for most of the information sector’s 1,400-worker decline.
