Nicolas Cage has sold his Newport Beach home for $35 million, setting a record for Orange County, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
The deal tops last year’s $30 million sale of a shorefront house on Laguna Beach’s Riviera Drive. Las Vegas real estate developer Ken Sullivan bought that home.
Cage’s Bayshore Drive home was bought by Jerry Herbst, owner, chairman and president of Las Vegas-based Terrible Herbst, which runs gas stations and other businesses in Nevada.
For years, Herbst has been among the Business Journal’s “weekend wealthy,” a listing of rich people who have homes in the county but whose main home is elsewhere.
Cage bought the contemporary home looking out onto Newport Harbor for $25 million in 2005.
The county loses a big-name resident with the sale. Late last year, Cage moved his family to his gated Bel-Air home, the Journal reported, after an intruder broke into the Newport Beach home and confronted Cage in October.
Sandra Bullock has a home in Sunset Beach and also has had issues with a stalker.
