Indiana-based Irwin Financial Corp. said Thursday it plans to open an independent bank unit in Orange County.
The local bank is set to be called Irwin Union Bank and have its headquarters in Costa Mesa.
The unit will be run by Caroline Harkins, a former senior vice president in charge of north OC’s banking operations for Detroit-based Comerica Inc.
Harkins left Comerica in February, and was replaced by Melissa Pollard, a Comerica first vice president.
Irwin Union will focus on lending and cash management services for OC’s business community, along with wealth management services.
Harkin, named as president of the local bank, was not available for comment.
