Bristol Park Medical Group moves into the former Caltrans office in Santa Ana

Bristol Park Medical Group has moved 170 administrative workers into a Santa Ana office building vacated by Caltrans.

The lease is valued at $4.75 million and runs for five years, according to real estate sources. Bristol Park last week completed its move to the new facility, said Shelly White, the medical group’s spokeswoman.

Bristol Park moved out of its former offices at 1100 W. La Veta Ave. because of its decision earlier this year to terminate an exclusive business agreement with Orange-based St. Joseph Health System, she said. The healthcare provider took about two months to find the new space, she said.

Bristol Park’s new building, 2501 Pullman St., was recently renovated. Improvements include a new interior with fiber-optic telecommunications links. The building houses the group’s administrative and business office workers.

Two years ago, Caltrans relocated its Orange County headquarters from the Santa Ana building to Park Place in Irvine near John Wayne Airport.

Bristol Park was founded in 1961. Today, it has around 100 doctors and 14 medical offices throughout OC.

Service offerings include primary care, adult and pediatric immunizations, behavioral healthcare, clinical laboratory services, health education, mammography, radiology, and registered dietitian and weight-control programs.

Rocky Tarantello of Tarantello & Associates represented Bristol Park in the deal. Phil Cohen and Chip Wright of CB Richard Ellis’ Newport Beach office, represented Kilroy Realty Corp., the building’s landlord.

Bristol Park, which serves around 130,000 patients, has figured in OC’s delicate dance between managed care companies and healthcare providers.

Last month, Woodland Hills-based Health Net, which has more than 181,000 members in the county, said it would end its business relationship with St. Joseph at the end of the year. Health Net officials specifically cited Bristol Park’s disengagement from its pact with St. Joseph as a factor in their decision.

Bristol Park and St. Joseph officially ended their five-year affiliation on July 1. Bristol Park doctors are expected to continue using St. Joseph Hospital-Orange, and Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.

“This is a mutual agreement in good faith, and we don’t anticipate any negative impact on patient care,” said Richard Statuto, St. Joseph’s chief executive, in a statement. “The two groups are going their separate ways because they believe it will be easier to manage rising healthcare costs and other financial risks separately than to do it together.”

Back in 1996, Bristol Park and St. Joseph announced a deal that called for St. Joseph’s Hospital Heritage Foundation to purchase a limited partnership that managed Bristol Park for an undisclosed sum.

Bristol Park remained physician-owned, but agreed to provide medical services for the foundation. n
