AROUND THE COUNTY

Compiled by Carol Park

COSTA MESA

Santa Ana-based Nexus Cos.’ proposed Westside Lofts mixed-use project at 1640 Monrovia has been approved. Construction is set to begin in two to three years, said Claire Flynn, the city’s principal planner. Plans call for the redevelopment of the former Eaton Corp. aerospace plant. That building will be demolished to make way for 151 condominiums, five live/work units and six commercial and office buildings totaling 41,500 square feet. The condos are set to be 697 square feet to 1,135 square feet in four-story buildings. The project is set to include a four-story parking structure, a pool and deck, clubhouse, fitness room and sport courts. The development is set for 6.8 acres.

ANAHEIM

Demolition is under way on a former compact disc plant that’s set to house a $750 million Kaiser Permanente hospital. Canada’s Cinram International Inc. closed a 218,000-square-foot disc replication plant at 3400 La Palma Ave. in 2001 after a four-year run in the county. The hospital is set for 3400 to 3450 E. La Palma Ave. Plans call for two towers with 360 beds and four medical office buildings. The hospital is set to include two parking structures and a 44,694-square-foot central utilities plant. The hospital is set to be built in three phases. Kaiser is building the complex to replace its aging 174-bed hospital on Lakeview Avenue. The new hospital is set to open in 2013. The 27-acre site is set to be the largest Kaiser facility in the county.

TUSTIN

Construction of a $20.6 million sheriff’s training academy at 15991 Armstrong Ave. is done. The Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy is owned by Rancho Santiago Community College District in Santa Ana. The 53,000-square-foot facility can accommodate 800 cadets. The two-building academy occupies 15 acres and includes 38 offices, four classrooms, lecture halls, training yards, a 1,500-seat auditorium and a physical fitness obstacle course. The academy is the first educational facility to open at the former Tustin air base.

FULLERTON

Plans for a 25,000-square-foot building at the First Evangelical Free Church at 2801 Brea Blvd. are under way. The project will go out to bid once plans are submitted and approved, according to the church. The building is set to include classrooms and a library. The church recently finished a three-story, 845-space parking structure as part of its expansion plans.

CYPRESS

Improvements on a 24,600-square-foot, two-story medical office building at 10601 Walker St. is nearly complete. The lobby of the newly constructed Cypress Professional Building is mostly done and units are ready for lease, according to developer Tahiti Partners Real Estate Development.

Construction on a townhome complex at 8582 Walker St. is complete. The 1,410-square-foot, three-bedroom townhomes are selling in the high $400,000s, down from an earlier price of $530,000. The four townhomes have stainless steel appliances and two-car garages.
