Masimo Corp. CEO Joe Kiani also told analysts the following during last week’s earnings call:
• “We’re hoping by this time next year [COVID-19] will be over with. I am hoping 100 years of science and progress, we don’t have to follow the same trajectory (as the Spanish flu), but it doesn’t seem to be any better yet. So assuming, it’s no worse than that, yes, I think we’re going to come out this stronger, with a better future than we had going into it.”
• “Elective procedures may be down between 50% to 75% right now. And the irony is that because of that hard-working clinicians that are putting their lives in danger are getting paid less and some are being furloughed, which just drives me insane, because we expect them to run towards the problem and yet we’re letting them go when we think we don’t need them, which is (a) different topic.
• “But I’ve got to say those same people are thinking that elective procedures are going to come back in June, July time frame maybe by 50% to normal capacity and then maybe by August, September 75% to 100%. And if that were to happen then again, we’ll probably benefit from that, because there’s a pent-up demand for elective procedures.”
