The William and Nancy Thompson Family Foundation and the Children and Families Commission of Orange County will donate $14.8 million to create a center specializing in autism and neurodevelopmental disorders.
The center will be operated as a part of University of California, Irvine, and will provide a range of diagnostic and treatment services to people from birth to 22 years of age.
UCI’s School of Medicine will receive $14 million in initial funding from the Thompson Foundation and commission. The Thompson foundation also will contribute $800,000 to Chapman University’s College of Educational Studies to fund a pair of initiatives by the center.
Children’s Hospital of Orange County is on board as a service partner with the new center.
William Thompson is a co-founder and former chief executive of Newport Beach-based bond fund manager Pacific Investment Management Co. His family foundation previously created the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders at the University of Missouri.
