Simon Property Group’s (NYSE: SPG) local malls reopen Tuesday, following the state’s greenlight over the weekend for Orange County to move into an expanded version of stage two in California’s phased reopening.
Brea Mall, The Outlets at Orange and The Shops at Mission Viejo shuttered March 19, along with Simon’s other properties, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mall owner Simon said it worked with epidemiology and environmental health and safety experts on a set of policies for its centers. Those measures include more sanitation and disinfecting of dining rooms, restrooms, escalators and other areas frequented heavily by visitors. Temperature checks at the malls’ entrances, face masks and hand sanitizing stations are also part of the protocols.
The California Department of Public Health on Saturday lifted additional restrictions for some businesses, touching most notably the reopening of in-store retail shopping and in-restaurant dining for OC, with safety measures such as limited capacities and face coverings.
That was followed Monday by the state’s approval, in concert with local health authorities, to reopen statewide in-store retail shopping, with safety measures.
