Redesigned Apple Watches Don’t Infringe Masimo Patents, ITC Juge Finds

Apple permitted to continue selling watches with new pulse ox features

A U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) judge has found that Apple’s redesigned smart watches do not infringe on Masimo’s patents in a preliminary ruling, Reuters reported.

The full commission will now review the judge’s decision for approval, according to Reuters.

The preliminary ITC ruling comes three years after the ITC issued an import ban on Apple’s Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches in 2023, resulting in Apple appealing the decision and integrating redesigned pulse oximetry features into its watches.

The import ban was separately affirmed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Last August, Irvine-based Masimo sued U.S. Customs and Border Protection over a ruling that allowed Apple to restore blood oxygen technology back into select watches.
