Medical Lab Buys Cypress Buildings

Consolidated Medical Bio-Analysis Inc., a medical laboratory, has bought two buildings in Cypress.

The Cypress-based company paid $3.2 million for buildings at 10703 Progress Way and 10700 Walker St., real estate sources said.

The buildings have 20,525 square feet between them and were built in 1979.

Consolidated plans to use them for laboratory space, according to sources familiar with the building buys. The company didn’t respond to calls for comment.

Vince Kagawan, a broker with Pinnacle Real Estate in Irvine, represented Consolidated.

Brian Williams and Michael Bouma of Voit Real Estate Services’ Anaheim office represented the seller, Raymond Elsey.

The buildings are part of a four-property complex in Cypress near Valley View Street and Katella Avenue that previously was occupied by Focus Diagnostics Inc., Bouma said.

Focus, which provides H1N1 influenza tests among other things, was bought in 2006 by New Jersey-based lab provider Quest Diagnostics Inc.

The Walker building “is a 100% built-out di-agnostic lab,” Bouma said.

The other building is office space sharing the same parking lot, he said.

Consolidated, which was founded in 1979, offers various types of medical testing.

The company also has a clinical trial and research operation that works with doctors and drug makers.

Consolidated is one of several medical testing operations in Orange County.

The county’s medical diagnostic laboratories include more Quest space—the Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute—which has a big facility off the Ortega (74) Highway in San Juan Capistrano, Irvine’s US Labs Inc., a unit of Lab-oratory Corporation of America, and Clarient Inc., a cancer testing company in Aliso Viejo.

Agendia BV, a Netherlands company, opened a laboratory and domestic headquarters in Huntington Beach earlier this year. Agendia makes the MammoPrint, a breast cancer test.
