Amerita Inc., an Irvine company that provides intravenous drugs to patients in their homes, said Wednesday that it bought an infusion business in San Antonio for undisclosed terms.
Amerita said it agreed to buy Advantage Infusion Services, which has operated in San Antonio for more than 15 years.
In a release, the company said this was the first time it bought an infusion business in a market where it has an existing location and will consolidate Advantage into its business there.
The privately held company has 12 locations in Colorado, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.
Amerita, which has yearly revenue of more than $55 million, is financially backed by Ferrer Freeman and Co., a Greenwich, Conn.-based investment firm that manages over $900 million and exclusively invests in healthcare businesses.
Ferrer Freeman’s previous investments include Endocare Inc., an Irvine medical device maker that was sold to Austin, Texas-based HealthTronics Inc. in 2009; Sicor Inc., a drug maker that was based in Irvine and sold to Israel’s Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. in 2003; and Volcano Therapeutics Inc., a maker of devices to treat blood vessel diseases that got its start in Laguna Niguel and is now based in San Diego.
