Grants at UCI Top $375M

University of California-Irvine researchers received more than $378 million in grants and contract funding for fiscal 2016-17, the second-highest total in campus history, UCI said.

The best year was last year, fiscal 2015-16, when the university got $395 million. The lower total for 2016-17 is due to decreased federal funding, according to UCI.

UCI said most grants in 2016-17 went to health research. The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, for instance, brought in more than $24 million and the school of medicine logged $147.5 million.

During 2016-17, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which includes the National Institutes of Health, provided $110 million, UCI’s largest single source of research funding.
