Covidien Cuts Jobs After Newport Medical Buy

Covidien PLC said that it let go 24 workers in its respiratory and monitoring solutions unit in a move related to its March buy of Costa Mesa-based Newport Medical Instruments Inc. for $108 million.

Covidien is a conglomerate that makes a range of medical devices. It is based in Bermuda but operates from Mansfield, Mass.

Job cuts came primarily from sales and sales support and were intended to reduce redundancies connected from integrating Newport into Covidien’s existing respiratory unit, according to MassDevice.com.
