CHOC Opens $300M Outpatient and Research Tower

Nine-story, 330K sq. ft. facility has more than 25 specialty clinics

Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), now part of Rady Children’s Health, opened its new outpatient and research tower at its Orange campus after two years of construction.

The nine-story, 330,000-square-foot facility officially opened on June 20 and will continue to open in phases until June 24.

CHOC invested $300 million to construct the tower, which houses more than 25 specialty clinics, advanced imaging, orthopedic rehabilitation and an entire floor dedicated to pediatric research.

“This new tower represents the next chapter in CHOC’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and compassion,” Kim Milstien, regional president of Rady’s Children’s Health, said in a statement.

Once fully operational, the tower is expected to serve more than 168,000 outpatients visits in its first year with that figure growing to over 180,000 by 2030, according to CHOC.

SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, the Cheng Family Foundation, Sherry and John Phelan and the Clemons Family Foundation are said to be major philanthropic backers of the new tower.
