Children’s Hospital of Orange County will expand its neonatal intensive care unit.
The Orange pediatric hospital is adding 36 private patient rooms to allow parents and guardians to stay overnight with their critically ill babies who receive specialized care there.
CHOC said that the expansion will open in summer 2017 and will replace pod-style beds that are now in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, which is located in CHOC’s Bill Holmes Tower.
The hospital also launched a $22 million fund raising campaign to complete the project. It has received $100,000 from Ray Zadjmool and Nazy Fouladirad on behalf of Lake Forest-based information security consulting form Tevora; a room in the unit will be named in honor of the gift.
CHOC’s neonatal intensive care unit includes several specialized services, including the Small Baby Unit, where infants weighing 2.2 pounds or less receive coordinated care.
