PHILANTHROPY

T-Shirts Testimony to Fallen Veteran

Irvine-based 5.11 Tactical donated $158,165 to the families of former Navy SEAL and best-selling author Chris Kyle and of Chad Littlefield, a friend of Kyle’s.

The friends were killed in February at a shooting range in Texas, and a fellow Iraq war veteran is charged in the killings. 5.11 Tactical, which provides tactical gear and clothing to safety personnel, military and outdoor enthusiasts, raised the money through the sale of limited-edition T-shirts. Customers purchased 6,327 shirts in memory of Kyle, and the company donated proceeds to the Troops First Foundation to divide equally between the two families. Kyle wrote the best-selling autobiography “American Sniper” about his service as a sniper during four tours of duty in the Iraq war. Actor Bradley Cooper will portray Kyle in an upcoming Steven Spielberg-directed movie based on the book.
