Alliance Entertainment Corp. said it bought the retail music distribution business of Anderson Merchandisers in a deal that would push Alliance revenue above the $1 billion mark. A purchase price wasn’t disclosed.
Alliance has maintained executive offices in Irvine and the bulk of its operation in Sunrise, Fla., since its purchase by Super D Inc., which was based in Irvine, in 2013.
Alliance distributes physical entertainment media—CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, vinyl records, and video games—to Barnes & Noble, Kmart and Books-A-Million. It adds music distribution to Walmart and Best Buy with the recent acquisition.
The Anderson division Alliance bought is in Amarillo, Texas; Plano, Texas-based Anderson Merchandisers has been divesting its retail distribution units in music, movies, and books to focus on in-store marketing services, according to media industry magazine Billboard.
Billboard said Alliance had revenue of about $700 million and the Anderson unit had revenue of about $350 million.
Alliance’s main distribution center is in Kentucky and the magazine’s report said some Anderson operations would consolidate there.
