Irvine Packaging Company Buys in Brazil

Irvine-based Scholle Packaging Inc. has acquired a controlling interest in a Sao Paulo, Brazil-based packaging manufacturer Flexpack on undisclosed terms.

Scholle Packaging, part of Scholle Corp., provides “bag-in-box” packaging products for a number of industries, ranging from agricultural chemicals and paints to coffee and wine.

The company is privately held and does not release financial information. It was ranked in 2011 as one of the largest U.S. companies in the flexible-packaging industry by Flexible Packaging, the official publication for Linthicum, Md.-based Flexible Packaging Association. The list ranked Scholle No. 23, with $120 million in 2010 revenue.

Scholle has about 2,000 employees total, with fewer than 20 in its Orange County offices. The company manufactures on five continents and has offices in about 60 countries.

Flexpack makes stand-up pouch packaging and barrier films for applications in the food industry for products such as sauces, dairy products, nuts and processed meats.
