John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana soon will expand its international connections, with service to Mexico by Interjet now set to begin next month.
The Mexico-based, low-cost carrier—which passed a noise test earlier this month and recently received federal approvals—will offer service from John Wayne to Mexico City and Guadalajara beginning Oct. 11. Interjet joins AirTran Airways, which began offering daily service to Cabo San Lucas and Mexico City in June.
Interjet’s Guadalajara service qualified for the third and final incentive package, which includes a $300,000 rent break for its first year of operation. The airline is required to offer nonstop routes averaging five flights per week.
