Apex Parks Group, an Aliso Viejo-based owner and operator of leisure parks, has acquired Sahara Sam’s Oasis Indoor and Outdoor Water Park in New Jersey.
Terms weren’t disclosed.
Sahara Sam’s, which was founded in 2009, is a 70,000-square-foot indoor complex that has various water-park features and arcade game offerings, including raft slides and wave pools.
Apex Parks Chief Executive Al Weber said the park’s status as “the only free-standing, year-round, indoor-outdoor water park in the United States” is expected to bring “a new market and a proven management team” to its portfolio of family entertainment centers.
Weber joined Apex Parks when it was formed last September by New York-based private equity firm Broad Sky Partners and Edgewater Funds in Chicago through an acquisition of 14 leisure parks and a water park from Newport Beach-based Palace Entertainment. The buy included various Boomers and SpeedZone locations, among other franchises, in California, Texas and Florida.
The transaction was part of Palace’s plans to focus more on gated parks.
Weber was formerly president and chief executive of Palace. He also has served as chief operating officer of Six Flags Entertainment Corp.
