UCI Gets $10.4M for Computer Sciences, Art

The University of California-Irvine announced Tuesday it received a $10.4 million gift from the Steckler Charitable Fund.

The Steckler Charitable Fund was formed by Vincent Steckler and his wife, Amanda. Vincent is a UCI alumnus and the former CEO of Czech-based Avast Antivirus Software, a publicly traded firm on the London Stock Exchange with a nearly $5.5 billion market cap.

About half of the gift, or $5 million, will establish the Center for Responsible, Ethical and Accessible Technologies at the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences.

The other half of the gift, about $5.4 million, will provide endowed funds for learning experiences, mentoring, fellowships and more for art history students.
