Gregory Washington will be the next president of Virginia’s George Mason University, effective July 1.
Washington has led growth initiatives as dean of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California-Irvine since 2011. He also founded OC STEM, a nonprofit that works with K-12 students.
He began his career in education at Ohio State University and received his bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees in engineering from North Carolina State University.
Washington joins George Mason University as it plans to ramp up technology education; it will launch a school of computing this year. GMU has more than 38,000 students.
