CSUF’s Garcia on National Panel

California State University-Fullerton President Mildred Garcia has been named to a national commission formed to find “practical solutions” to the increasing cost of a college education, the university said.

Garcia is a charter member of the National Commission on Financing 21st Century Higher Education, established by University of Virginia’s Miller Center, which works in the area of public policy.

The commission is funded in part by the Indianapolis-based Lumina Foundation, which wants to grow “the proportion of Americans with high-quality degrees, certificates and other credentials to 60 percent by 2025,” according to its website.

Members of the commission include two former U.S. state governors, current and former university presidents and chancellors, and current and former chief executives of U.S. companies.

Garcia said she wants to find ways to “recommit public and private dollars to equitable higher education and the path to social justice it is proven to provide.”
