Fram Virjee, president of California State University, Fullerton–Orange County’s largest university by student population–today said he will be retiring from his post on July 31 of this year.
“This was an incredibly hard decision,” Virjee said in a statement. “After careful consideration and discussion, (wife) Jules and I have decided that it is time for us to retire, spend more time with our loved ones, and enjoy watching and supporting our beloved university and its faculty, staff and students soar to even greater heights under the leadership of a new president.”
CSU will appoint an interim president following Virjee’s retirement and subsequently begin a “national search” for his successor.
Under Virjee’s leadership, CSUF founded its first comprehensive fundraising campaign, which has raised over $270 million to date. Virjee also oversaw the renovation of CSUF’s library, baseball and softball fields and the completion of a new 600-bed residence hall.
