Daniele Struppa today announced that he will be retiring as president of Orange-based Chapman University on September 1, 2025, and returning to the mathematics faculty.
“I have been an administrator for more than thirty years, and while I have been able to teach and publish while serving in my administrative roles, I have increasingly missed devoting more of my time to those activities,” Struppa said in a statement. “I have had a lifelong love of math, and I want to spend the rest of my intellectual life immersed in it.”
Under Struppa’s eight years of leadership, Chapman launched its most ambitious fundraising campaign, which has raised over $387 million of its $500 million goal. Struppa also oversaw the completed expansion of the Hilbert Museum of California Art and the conversion of Chapman Court, set to open this fall.
Chapman said that Chair of the Board of Trustees Parker Kennedy will appoint a formal search committee to find a successor for Struppa.
