OC Automakers See Tough June

Local automakers saw mostly declines yet again in their June sales results as they continued to navigate the impact of the pandemic on consumer spending.

Irvine-based Mazda North American Operations was the lone company to see an increase. The automaker reported June sales up 10.9% to 25,326 vehicles. The month’s performance was led by sales of the MX-5 Miata and CX-9.

Hyundai Motor America Inc. of Fountain Valley saw sales fall 22% in June from the prior year to 50,135 vehicles.

Irvine-based Kia Motors America Inc. reported June sales of 47,870 vehicles, down 15.7% from a year ago. The month’s biggest movers were the Kia Sportage, Sorento and Soul.

Sales of Fountain Valley-based Genesis Motor America Inc. fell 24.3% to 1,429 vehicles in June. Genesis Motor North America President and CEO Mark Del Rosso said he is “confident that Genesis is well positioned to garner a lot more attention in the second half of the year.”
