OC Automakers Cap 2019 Generally Up

Most Orange County automakers reported a strong 2019 with their December numbers.

Sales for the month for Fountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America Inc. were down 1% to 64,720 vehicles. Hyundai, for the full year, said it had its best sales since 2016 with 688,771 vehicles sold, up 3% from a year ago.

Irvine-based Kia Motors America Inc. sold 51,229 vehicles for the month, up 8% from a year earlier. The automaker, for the year, was up 4.4% to 615,338 vehicles sold.

Mazda North American Operations of Irvine notched a 2.4% gain in sales for the month to 26,491 vehicles. It’s full-year results reflected a 7.2% decline to 278,552 vehicles, with sales off across all models except for the CX-5.

Fountain Valley-based Genesis Motor America sold 2,225 vehicles during the month, up 262% from a year earlier, driven by the automaker’s revamped dealer network. Sales for the year were up 106% to 21,233.
